2012 NORCAL
POKER TOURNAMENT
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
RULES
Points will be awarded from Jan. 1 to Nov. 3 based on three factors: what place a player takes in the tournament (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.), how many players were entered in the event, and the dollar value of the buy-in. Baseline points will be awarded to players placing in the top 10% of their tournament field, with a maximum of 30 players receiving points. If a tournament has 40 players, only the top 4 will receive points. We will round up to maximize the number of players getting points. If the tournament has 41 players, points will be awarded to the top 5. The one exception to this rule will be tournaments of less than 18 players, but at least 12. These will award points to first place only. Tournaments with 11 or fewer players will not be eligible for points.
Baseline points begin at 100 for 1st place and go down to 10 points for 30th place. Multipliers are then applied based on total number of players in the tournament and buy-in.

Number of players multiplier
Tournaments of 12-29 players will have a multiplier of 1; thereafter, each
additional 10 players will add a 0.1 to the multiplier. Thus, 31-40 players will
have a multiplier of 1.1, 41-50 will be 1.2, 51-60 is 1.3, etc. The highest this
multiplier can go is 4. For
re-entry tournaments, re-entries will be treated as an additional player, not a
re-buy.
Buy-in multiplier
All money paid for entering the tournament is included in this figure. A $50 + $10 tournament is considered a $60 tournament for computing points. Tournaments with re-buys or add-ons will be counted as the dollar value of the buy-in plus one re-buy or add-on (whichever is greater). A buy-in value of $0-$29 will have a multiplier of 1; thereafter, each additional $10 will add 0.05 to the multiplier. The system works the same as the number of players multiplier. The highest this multiplier can go is 3.
Casino eligibility
All casinos that are advertisers in good standing with The Cardroom are eligible to participate in the Player of the Year contest. New advertisers become eligible starting on the day they sign their advertising agreement. Casinos that stop advertising with The Cardroom become ineligible to award points beginning on the date a new edition begins distributing (the tenth of odd-numbered months). Example: If a casino does not advertise in the May/June issue they are no longer eligible starting May 10. Upon signing a new advertising agreement, they are again eligible for points. Any tournaments held by them during their period of ineligibility will not receive points.
Back-dated tournaments
Players are eligible for points starting with the day they fill out their sign-up form. They will not be eligible for points that took place before their sign up date. Players do not have to sign up each year as their membership carries over from year to year.
Open events only
Points will be awarded for open events only. Tournaments with restrictions on who can enter (such as casino employees only, ladies only, or freerolls for frequent players only) are ineligible for points.
“Chopped” prize pools
If the remaining players in a tournament make a deal to divide the prize pool (whether or not they continue play for an additional prize such as a trophy or seat in a later tournament) it is considered a “chopped” tournament for purposes of points. The players involved in the deal will share the number of points earned by the average of the places in the chop. In other words, if five players chop, they will receive the average of first to fifth place points.
